The first is about the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2016\/06\/8-digital-skills-we-must-teach-our-children\/\" target=\"_blank\">8 digital skills we must teach our children<\/a>.\u00a0Then a \u00a0a follow up entitled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2016\/09\/8-digital-life-skills-all-children-need-and-a-plan-for-teaching-them?utm_content=buffer1e925&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\">8 digital skills children now need and a plan on how to teach them<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the first article, Park encourages\u00a0DQ &#8211; digital intelligence [rather than IQ]. \u00a0DQ is a set of social, emotional and cognitive abilities that enable individuals to face the challenges and adapt to the demands of digital life. This includes an awareness of one&#8217;s online persona and management of the short-term and long-term impact of one&#8217;s online presence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\">\n<p><b>Digital use:<\/b> The ability to use digital devices and media, including the mastery of control in order to achieve a healthy balance between life online and offline.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\">\n<p><b>Digital safety:<\/b> The ability to manage risks online (e.g. cyberbullying, grooming, radicalization) as well as problematic content (e.g. violence and obscenity), and to avoid and limit these risks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\">\n<p><b>Digital security:<\/b> The ability to detect cyber threats (e.g. hacking, scams, malware), to understand best practices and to use suitable security tools for data protection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\">\n<p><b>Digital emotional intelligence: <\/b>The ability to be empathetic and build good relationships with others online.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\">\n<p><b>Digital communication:<\/b> The ability to communicate and collaborate with others using digital technologies and media.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\">\n<p><b>Digital literacy:<\/b> The ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share and create content as well as competency in computational thinking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\">\n<p><b>Digital rights:<\/b> The ability to understand and uphold personal and legal rights, including the rights to privacy, intellectual property, freedom of speech and protection from hate speech.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Without them, the digital divide will continue to be exacerbated. They call it the<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The challenge for educators is to move beyond thinking of IT as a tool, or \u201cIT-enabled education platforms\u201d.
