In the context of the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development {HLPF ’22] organized by UN’s ECOSOC, Virtual Activism organized a panel entitled Egypt vulnerability to water stress & climate change: scientific and political perspectives.
With a rising intrinsic water budget deficit due to rapid population growth and an increasing upstream damming on the Nile River, what are the scientific and political perspectives of the alarming forecasted water scarcity in populous Egypt? What are the regional and global implications of Egypt’s water and climatic vulnerabilities?
The panel was hosted by Marlyn Tadros, moderator, with Essam Heggy, Research Scientist, USC/JPL/NASA and Amr Hamzawi, Director of the Middle East Program. Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
